Obituary for Peter L Letizia

Peter L  Letizia
Peter Letizia, 62, beloved husband, brother and teacher from West Hartford died suddenly on March 24th. Born in Hartford on July 11, 1951 he was the son of the late Rosario and Margaret (Telesino) Letizia of Rocky Hill. Pete graduated Rocky Hill High School in 1969 and Central CT State College in 1973. During his 38 year career in the West Hartford Public Schools he taught at Plant Junior High, Sedgwick Middle School and Conard High School where he also coached varsity field hockey and JV baseball and was the voice of Conard football. He also taught in the Alternate Route to Certification program for many years. A natural and dedicated teacher, Pete had a gift for listening to and gaining the respect of students and colleagues. A man of great compassion and understanding, he always went the extra mile to help anyone in need, even in his recent retirement. Pete’s wry sense of humor and his kind, charming nature were known to everyone and his humility and integrity were evident in everything he did. His love for the NY Giants and Red Sox was legendary. He was a music maven with a world-class album collection.
Pete is survived by his wife and best friend, Rachel Hyland, his dear sister Marilyn Donzila and friend and brother-in-law Walt Donzila of Glastonbury, mother-in-law, Carol Hyland, of Rocky Hill, father-in-law Bob Hyland and his wife Harriet, of West Hartford, sister-in-law Sarah Hyland and her husband Rich Rochlin of Farmington, sister-in-law Lindsay Hyland of Newington, brother-in-law Daniel Hyland of New York City, aunt Jean Letizia of Newington, several cousins in Connecticut and Florida, lifelong friend Marcia Pasco and his much adored cats, Ishmael and Leila. Pete was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who shared in his life.
Memorial calling hours will be Saturday, March 29, 2-5 p.m. at the Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford. In lieu of flowers, donations in Pete’s name may be made to the Foundation for West Hartford Public Schools, 50 South Main St., #420 West Hartford, CT 06107.
