My name is Josh, and I am the grandson of Ralph's brother, Gardner Parsons. So Ralph is my mom's uncle (my mom is Sheila Parsons). However, to me, my brother (Caleb), and two sisters (Rebecca and Melissa), Ralph was always referred to as "Uncle Ralph." I remember growing up, even as a young child, when Uncle Ralph would call at holidays and ask to talk to me and inquire about my life. Although he wasn't my actual uncle or grandfather, he was always engaged and was curious about how my life was going. Just such a genuine and loving person.
My great memory of Uncle Ralph comes from a few years ago when myself, my grandfather and Uncle Ralph's brother (Gardner Parsons), my grandmother (Ann Parsons), my mom (Sheila Parsons), my brother (Caleb Brown), my aunt (Debbie Spiess), my cousin (Jessie Spiess), and all of John Parsons' family and cousins got together at John's house in Marblehead. This was the first time for me to meet many of Uncle Ralph's children and their children, and it was a fantastically wonderful time! It was a perfectly sunny day in Marblehead with a great family atmosphere. My absolutely fantastic memory of Uncle Ralph at this occassion is relative to Bocce ball. Uncle Ralph, who at the time had lost a lot of his vision and had two (not one, but two) knee replacements, was throwing those bocce balls with wreckless abandon and trying to win the game. I was so impressed that he was so active and had so much life left in him...very inspirational and I think indicative of who he was as a person...simply a tremendous spirit that was very much alive in him.
I am very sad for this loss, and my prayers are with the Parsons family right now. I'm simultaneously happy because I know Uncle Ralph lived life to the fullest and had a wonderful time doing it, positively impacting lives around him along the way!
Rest in Peace, Uncle Ralph!
