Luella Elizabeth (Lint) Claflin “Betty”, 93, of West Hartford passed away at Arden Courts in Farmington, on May 11, 2012. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Dexter Claflin, her daughters, Linda Crespi and Martha Claflin, and son-in-law, David Crespi. She is survived by John and Anik Claflin, Jane and Mark Tamaccio, Bill and Bunny Claflin, Robert and Joan Claflin, and Ruth Crespi. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren (Jodie, Scott, Louisa, Lea, Stacey, Bryan, Lewis, Brendan, Carly, Laurie, Heather, Tyler, Shannon, and Jeremy), as well as 15 great-grandchildren (Carolyn, Grace, David, Sam, Kiara, Christina, Thomas, Cody, Jack, Brady, Henry, Maren, Grey, Decker, and Kadin).

Born in Easton, PA, Betty lived on Long Island and moved to Wichita, Kansas, for high school. After graduating from Kansas St. Univ., she taught Home Economics. In 1942, she married Dexter, after meeting him at Martha’s Vineyard in 1941. They moved their young family from New Hampshire to West Hartford in 1953. She taught sewing at Plant Jr. High in the 1960’s when three of her children were attending college.

Betty was a member of the Women’s Guild at First Church in West Hartford, the Rockledge Women’s Golf Club, Delta Delta Delta, and several local bridge clubs, some of which have played together for nearly 60 years. She loved golfing, playing cards and bingo, hosting church dinners, and most notably, was an avid knitter.

A Memorial Service will be held at First Church, 12 S. Main St. in West Hartford on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at 2 pm. Feel free to wear a golf shirt or a “Betty hand knit.”
