The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Joseph McKeon can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Bob Nadolny, BA in Philosophy 1990, Magna cum Laude
To the family and friends of Dr. McKeon, I was a student of Professor McKeon's (though he insisted I call him Joe after I graduated) in the late '80s. His style was one of easy demeanor, love of subject matter - never pedantic, woven with a tapestry of stories, anecdotes and humor - and obvious compassion for his students on their journey on the road to find out. He was always accessible, always nurturing, and had a smile in his eye when he knew you truly absorbed something he was teaching. He was my mentor, an inspiration and in large part why I turned to philosophy. He seemed to me to be treading the Boddhisattva Path of the six paramitas: transcendental generosity, discipline, patience, energy, meditation and knowledge. I could go on about philosophical conversations we had during and after I graduated, or having a beer and pizza at Great Oaks/Elmer's after final exams, or catching up on our lives in his office at Marcus White. If one word could say it all about Joe, it would be "unforgettable." Finally, to my mentor and friend, I hope you were able to face your mortality with Chuang-Tzu-like lyrical, almost ecstatic acceptance. May you be Home, "at peace," "One," or whatever your wildest imaginings and beyond were - be there. Bob
