Helena (Cabral) DeFreitas, 77, of Southington, formerly of Hartford, beloved wife of Jose DeFreitas. Helena passed away on Thursday (September 13, 2012) with her family by her side at The Hospital of Central Connecticut. She was born on February 23, 1935 in Santa Maria, Acores, Portugal to the late Jose and Maria Adelina Cabral. Helena retired from Aetna after 25 years of service. She was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Hartford till moving to Southington with her daughter Irene and son-in-law John and grandchildren Alexis and John Carreiro in 2010 after a battle of kidney issues. Helena is survived by her husband Jose; her two children, Daniel DeFreitas and daughter-in-law Clara of Hebron and daughter Irene Carreiro and son-in-law John of Southington. Her grandchildren were the love of her life Katarina and Jordan DeFreitas and Alexis and Johnny Carreiro. She also leaves behind her brothers Antonio Cabral from Acores and Jose Cabral and sister-in-law Filomena of Massachusetts and a sister-in-law Helena Lopes Cabral in Acores and a niece whom she loved dearly as a sister, Ines Cabral and her husband Daniel; many nieces, nephews and friends. Helena was predeceased by her brothers and sisters Rosa, Joao, Virginia, Maria, Antonio, her twin brother Evaristo and Miguel.
The family would like to thank the staff at N4 – Cardiology/ Hospital of Central CT who lovingly cared for Helena during her last weeks of life. Also, the staff at The Summit for their kindness and care for Helena.
Funeral procession will be Monday (September 17), 9:00 a.m. from the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home 1084 New Britain Ave, West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in the Cathedral of St. Joseph, 140 Farmington Ave., Hartford. Burial will be in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Calling hours are Sunday (September 16) from 3-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
