Charles E. Oliver, 78, of West Hartford, beloved husband of Mildred “Millie” (Chiascione) Oliver passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, March 27, 2013, following a brief illness. He was born and raised in Hartford and moved to West Hartford where he resided since 1968. Charlie was a Korean War veteran, serving with the U. S. Army. He retired from Pratt and Whitney Machine Tool Div., West Hartford, with over 35 years of service. He was predeceased by his parents, William Francis and Blanche (Feeney) Oliver. Besides his wife, Millie, Charlie is survived by his children, Kathleen “Kathy” Symonds and her husband, Richard of Canton and Stephen Oliver and his wife, Ellen of Canton; his five grandchildren, Kristin and Kelsey Symonds and Stephen, Jr. , Zachary and Kaelyn Oliver, all of Canton; four brothers, John “Jack” Oliver and wife, Joan of Florida, Richard Oliver and wife, Cynthia of Pennsylvania, Robert Oliver and wife, Alice of Maryland and Mark Oliver of Maryland and two sisters, Joann Arsenault of East Hartford and Maureen Oliver of Wethersfield. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Ann Giannone of Berlin; nieces, Charlene Tardif and husband Jim of Bristol and Candace Curren and husband John of Berlin; dear friends, Arthur and Carol Miller of Wethersfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Monday, April 1, 2013 at Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00 am at the Church of Saint Peter Claver, 47 Pleasant St., West Hartford. Please go directly to Church. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford.
