Obituary for Carleen Borawski (Hartigan)

Carleen Borawski (Hartigan)
Carleen H. Borawski, 72, of Farmington, Conn., beloved wife and best friend of Kenneth S. Borawski, died on January 18, 2015 at John Dempsey Hospital. Carleen was born on Palm Sunday, March 29, 1942 in Middletown, Conn., daughter of the late William E. and Anna (Wenneke) Hartigan-Andrews and lived in the Hartford area most of her life. She was a graduate of Bulkeley High School, class of 1960. Carleen was employed by the Town of West Hartford from 1973 to 1986, and also was a real estate agent in West Hartford for several years. Carleen was named after her Danish maternal grandfather, who was born in Copenhagen. She also had a German maternal grandmother born in New Rochelle, NY and a paternal Irish grandfather born in Essex, Conn. and a paternal Austrian grandmother, born in Vienna. She was proud of her mixed European heritage. She loved the ocean and Cape Cod, where she and Ken have a second home for many years in Brewster near Cape Cod Bay, and spent many enjoyable times. Carleen enjoyed keeping photo albums, and she believed photos are the one of the most priceless possessions we have. She had albums for every category, even all the cats she ever had. She loved all animals but was partial to felines. Carleen also loved to travel and she and Ken enjoyed vacations to Bermuda, Niagara Falls, Toronto, Quebec, Florida, Las Vegas. Carleen was spiritual and believed all people are children of a supreme deity and there is no religion that is either all correct, or all wrong. This came after much thought and deliberation, as Carleen did not believe anything unless she searched for the truth. Since she had such a thirst for spiritual awareness, Carleen read many books on the subject. Carleen was predeceased by her much-loved sister, Barbara (Hartigan) Parker, in 1980. Besides her beloved husband of 33 years (we were married July 1981), she leaves her loving son, Ronald W. Mays and his wife, Michelle; a precious grandson, Ronald William Mays, Jr. (RJ), a precious granddaughter, Alexis Veronica Mays (Lexi) all of Oxford; a stepdaughter, Jennifer (Borawski) Ullram and her husband, Walter Ullram, Jr. of East Hampton; a sister, Janet H. Robichaud of Bristol. Carleen also leaves five nieces and three nephews, six great-nieces and a nephew, and many friends. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 23, at 10:00 am at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Farmington. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, January 22, from 5 to 7:30 pm. Please do not mourn, but celebrate Carleen's life, because it was a life not only with many lessons, but many blessings! Online condolences may be made at www.SheehanHilbornBreen.com.
