Obituary for William C. Cottam

William C. Cottam
William "Bill" C. Cottam,90, of Bloomfield, died peacefully in his sleep on November 2, 2016 at Avon Health Center. Bill was born in Andover, MA to Marmaduke and Elsie (Vogel) Cottam. He served as a radio sergeant with the Army's 7th Infantry Division in Seoul, Korea in 1947. He graduated from the Boston University School of Business in 1949 and joined the Travelers Insurance Company, where he worked in various capacities and numerous locations, before retiring in 1988. Bill often said that he was fortunate to have loved two women in his life: Priscilla (Brean) Cottam to whom he was married for 47 years until her death in 1997 and his beloved Maureen Miller to whom he was married for 16 years until his passing. Bill discovered a love for Ogunquit, Maine, with Priscilla. He loved traveling throughout the world with Maureen, walking, hiking and discovering the world of art. He also had a passion for genealogy, delighting in learning amusing facts about past relatives. Despite his advanced age, Bill never lost his faith, sense of humor, and need to feel "warm and cuddly". Bill loved to thank others with a sincere "Bless your heart". Bill is survived by four children, Alison Fairbanks, Jennifer Silva, Priscilla "Polly" Kelloway, Daniel Cottam and their spouses; 11 grandchildren, Zachary, Hannah, Sarah, Jonathan, Lauren, Katherine, Paige, Rebecca, Brendan, Matthew and Andrew; two great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Olivia; brothers-in-law, Warren, Wayne, Kenneth and Gary Miller and sister-in-law, Patricia Miller. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, November 10, at 11:00 am at Grace Lutheran Church, 46 Woodland St., Hartford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 200 Executive Blvd., South #4B, Southington, CT 06489. Online condolences may be made at www.SheehanHilbornBreen.com.
