Obituary for Timothy Melancthon Storrs

Timothy Melancthon Storrs, 70, of West Hartford, CT; and also a resident of Titusville, FL; beloved son of the late Jennie (Rogalewski) Storrs and Frank Hamilton Storrs died on Sunday, May 4, 2014 in Florida, following a long illness. He was born in Hartford, raised in West Hartford, graduating from Conard High School and was a graduate of the University of Hartford with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business. Mr. Storrs continued with his education at Trinity College where he earned his Master of Art Degree in Economics. At the time of his death, Mr. Storrs was retired from Panasonic Company a Division of Matsushita Corporation where he held the position of Southern Group Sales Manager of the Technics Musical Instrument Division. Timothy had a devotion to beautiful music and was an excellent musician in his own right. He was very proud of his accomplishments in business, education and love of his family heritage. The Storrs family in this country descended from Samuel Storrs, who came to Barnstable, MA from England in 1663. He settled in Mansfield in 1693. In 1880, Charles and Augustus Storrs conceived a plan for a school to educate youth for business life and especially farm life. Augustus offered 170 acres of land with building in his own native town of Mansfield. Charles offered $5,000.00 dollars in cash. By an act approved on April 21, 1881, the General Assembly of the State of Connecticut accepted the offer of the Storrs brothers and the Storrs Agriculture School was established, which is now the University of Connecticut located in the town which bears the family name. The Storrs family is also responsible for donating to the City of Hartford, the statue of Lafayette which stands in the center of Lafayette Circle near Bushnell Park in 1932. Other philanthropic works include the Storrs-Raven Wing of Mary Hitchcock Hospital, Dartmouth, N.H. Mr. Storrs was a member of The Hartford Club for over 45 years and also was a member of LaCita Country Club of Titusville, FL. Tim leaves his cousins, Edwin Pelis, Louise Slysz, and Susan Kugler all of Hatfield, MA and numerous other relatives, extended family and friends. Timothy was predeceased by his beloved twin brother Dr. Peter Hamilton Storrs. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, May 9, 2014 at 10am at the Church of St. Timothy, 1116 North Main Street, West Hartford. A calling hour will be at the church from 9-10AM prior to the Mass. The entombment will be private in Cedar Hill cemetery at the Storrs Family Crypt. Because of Timothy's love of animals, donations may be made in his memory to The Tufts School of Veterinary Medicine or the Connecticut Humane Society. Donations can also be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society. Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home, West Hartford has care of the arrangements.
