Thomas R. Zisa, 62, of West Hartford, beloved husband to Amy Seltzer Zisa of 41 years, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on October 10, 2012. Surviving family members include his wife, adored children Sarah and Joshua, daughter-in-law Kimberly, and granddaughter Charlotte whom he loved so much. He also leaves his father Edwin, siblings Pamela, Patricia and husband Frank, Raymond and wife Erika, Richard and wife Jeanne, Douglas and wife Nancy, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Tom was predeceased by his mother Lillian. Special gratitude goes out to his sister Pam, who provided exceptional care, love, and support during his courageous 19-month battle with kidney cancer. Tom’s canine companions were treated as family and were a great source of joy and happiness throughout his life.
Tom, a skilled painter and paperhanger, was very proud of his high quality product, doing honest work for an honest wage. A third generation New York Yankee fan, he instilled Yankee pride in two subsequent generations. Tom loved golf and was active in the Rockledge Men's Club enjoying the friendship of its members and staff for over 30 years. He was a talented poker player who thrived in tournament play while equally enjoying a friendly home game. Summers were special for Tom, filled with patio BBQing, tending to his tomatoes and flowers, taking to the road on his Harley-Davidson, and relaxing in Maine and Prince Edward Island. Tom loved his wife’s cooking and always appreciated a good meal. He also had a knack for discovering budding musical talent, listening to independent radio and frequenting live performances at local venues.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2012 from 4-7pm at Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford.
