Obituary for Thomas B. Fahy

Thomas B. Fahy
Thomas B. Fahy, 76, of West Hartford and East Orleans, MA joined the love of his life, Althea Martin in heaven on January 12, 2013. Tom is the son of the late Mary (O’Brien) and George E. Fahy.

Tom attended Hall High School and graduated from Kingswood School 1955. In 1958, Althea and Tom were married and lived in Rhode Island until his graduation from Providence College in 1959. After serving in the Army Reserves he returned to Hartford where he joined the Travelers as an agency sales representative. In 1964, with Althea by his side, Tom started his own business, Thomas Fahy Insurance Agency. Tom was also a founding member of Acorn Alliance. Tom took great pride in the agency and his colleagues, some of whom worked with him for over 30 years.

Tom is survived by his four children and their spouses:
Elizabeth Fahy Bellingrath and her husband Chuck of West Hartford, T. Brian Fahy Jr. and his wife Heather of West Fairlee VT, Margaret Mary Fahy Hughes and her husband Paul of Wellesley, MA and Allison Fahy Amenabar and her husband Michael of West Hartford. Tom leaves 13 grandchildren who adored him: Chas, Sam, Tucker and Mac Bellingrath, Tom, Patrick, and Collin Fahy, Mark, Sarah and Elizabeth Hughes, and Bailey, Cooper and William Amenabar. Tom also leaves his brother George Jr. of Naples, Florida, Godfather Eugene O’Brien of Saybrook, Godmother Helen Levack of New York. In addition he leaves his brother-in-law Joseph Martin, sisters-in-law Kathleen Leon, Margaret Casey, Moira Martin, Jude Banich and their spouses as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Tom’s most treasured times were when his family gathered on the Cape. He served as president of the Connecticut Opera, President of the Exchange Club, President of Kingswood Old Boys Association, and was a board member at West Hartford Chamber of Commerce.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jack Schmetterling and Sherri Goldberg for their support and David Larbi, from Companions for the Living, for his devotion.

A Mass celebrating Tom’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 16 at 10 am at the Church of St. Peter Claver, 47 Pleasant Street, West Hartford. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Calling hours are Tuesday from 5-7 pm at Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford. Gifts in Tom’s memory may be made to The Palliative Care Unit at Hartford Hospital or to the donor’s choice.
