The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Sister Mary Ellen Murphy can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

My aunt, Rear Admiral Frances Shea Buckley, was a classmate of Sister Mary Ellen Murphy at USJ. My aunt once gave a speech entitled "Growing Up Irish" in which she mentions Sister Mary Ellen and her accomplishments. I met her when she attended Emanuel Buckley's (my aunt's husband) burial at Arlington and was so impressed by her accomplishments at a time when women had few career opportunities. I was trying to locate her for my aunt's Arlington burial when I discovered she died on July 27, 2015. My aunt died on July 8, 2015. Both women were among those remembered at the Chapel Bells Liturgy at USJ on November 4th. Two great female role models left us within weeks of each other. To Sister Mary Ellen's family, I offer my condolences for your loss of such an amazing person.
