Shirley Jane O'Brien  Ramezzana
Shirley Jane O'Brien Ramezzana, 86, wife of the late Raymond J. Ramezzana, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 6,1928 in Hartford, daughter of the late James H. and Edna (Spears) O'Brien, she raised her children in West Hartford before moving to Newington.
Shirley was a graduate of Bulkeley High School and worked for the Town of West Hartford as Crossing Guard for over 35 years. She leaves to mourn her passing her four children: Jean K. Anderson (James) of West Hartland, Raymond J. Ramezzana of Newington, Ellen R. Parker of Wethersfield and Anne R. Flawd (Harry) of Lancaster, PA. She also leaves her ten grandchildren: Julie, Russell, Glenn, Lauren, Jennifer, Jeffrey, Matthew, Adam, Devin and Jordan, along with 4 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brothers Warren, James and William O'Brien. She is survived by her cousin, Lois Tunilla of West Hartford; a sister-in-law Mary Martino of Canton and several nieces and nephews. Shirley was an avid New York Yankees and Giants fan, enjoyed Bingo, her dog Roxy, and she was a proud Republican. Time spent with her family were some of her happiest and most treasured times. The family would like to thank Hartford Hospital's CB5 and CB2 for their care in Shirley's final days, as well as Dr. Frances Gurtman of Hartford Healthcare Medical Group. Funeral procession will be on Tuesday, June 3 at 9:00 am from the Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Brigid Church, West Hartford at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, June 2 from 6-8 pm. . In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Shirley's memory, may be made to the Newington Volunteer Ambulance, 71 John H. Stewart Dr., Newington, CT 06111.
