Obituary for Rosa Saenz de Spinola

Rosa Saenz de Spinola
Rosa Saenz de Spinola, 84, of West Hartford, beloved wife of the late Alvaro Fernando de Spinola passed away peacefully on Friday April 10, 2015 with her daughter and friends by her side. Rosa was born October 2, 1930 in Lima, Peru, the daughter of the late Jorge Saenz and Rosa Maria Saenz Peirano. Rosa was blessed with a very full and interesting life. It was her love of travel and adventure that brought her to the United States in 1962, and then embarked her on a tour of Europe, where she met her husband in Madrid, Spain in the late 1960s. After a brief long-distance courtship, Rosa travelled to Lourenco Marques, Mozambique in 1968 to marry. Rosa always expressed that the eight years of living in Mozambique were the most beautiful of her life, during which her one and only child was born in 1973. Unfortunately, political unrest forced the family to leave Mozambique, and after brief stays in Brazil and Peru, Rosa returned to the States settling in Hartford, CT in 1975 with her husband and daughter. In 1981, Rosa proudly became an American Citizen. She enjoyed her travels to Portugal to visit her husband’s family and to Peru to visit her family. After her beloved Fernando’s death in 1993, it was her undying faith in ‘Senor de los Milagros’, her devotion to her daughter, and her fierce independence that brought her comfort from her grief. When she retired in 1997 after 25 years at Aetna Life Insurance Co, Rosa moved to the Ormond Beach area in FL where she lived an active and independent life. Then in 2005,she once again returned to CT to be close to her daughter. Rosa was a devoted wife, mother, and proud grandmother. Rosa said that one of her happiest moments was seeing her daughter marry in 2007, but that her greatest blessings were her grandchildren, born in 2009 and 2013. They brought her endless joy, and along with her pets - two beloved pugs - they were a welcomed distraction from the rheumatoid arthritis and pulmonary fibrosis that she battled every day. Rosa will be greatly missed by her daughter Patricia Altieri and her husband Anthony Altieri,Jr. of West Hartford, two grandchildren Giuliana and Lucca, and two loyal pets. She also leaves many extended family members, including a sister- in- law, nieces, nephews, and cousins in Peru and many loving friends at home. Calling hour will be Saturday, (April 18) at 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 40 Fatima Square, Hartford. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
