Ronald R.  Funkhouser
Ronald R. Funkhouser, 66 passed into God’s hands Monday September 3, 2012 after a brief battle with cancer.
Born on August 4 1946 he was a 21 year Navy veteran Ron is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Amelia (Cappelli) of West Hartford. He also leaves behind 3 children; David and his wife Melissa of West Hartford, Adam and his wife Elizabeth of West Hartford and Michelle Hawley and her husband Larry of Essex Junction, VT. Ron was also the proud grandfather to 5 grandchildren: Shelby 17, David 17, Vanessa 15, Emmitt 3, and Luke James 1 and was awaiting the arrival of a sixth in October of this year.
Ron started his military career in 1965 and spent a good amount of his time on nuclear submarines stationed out of Groton and ended his career in Norfolk, VA in 1986. He traveled the world and had been to the North Pole more than once. Aside from his naval career he had an entrepreneurial vision and had operated many small businesses of his own. He was an avid amateur chef who loved to cook and was always adding his own spin on food.
Calling hours will be Thursday, (September 6) from 5-8 pm at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, (September 7) at 11:00 am in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 872 Farmington Ave., West Hartford. Everyone is asked to meet directly at Church. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ronald’s name to the American Cancer Society, 825 Brook Street, I-91 Tech Center, Rocky Hill, CT 06067 or the National Kidney Foundation, 2139 Silas Deane Hwy, Ste 208, Rocky Hill.
