Obituary for Robert V. Walsh Jr.

Robert V.  Walsh Jr.
Robert V. Walsh, Jr. , of West Hartford, husband of the late Mary (Langford) Walsh, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at The Hospital of Central Connecticut. He was born in Holyoke, MA on October 17, 1938, the son of the late Robert and Irma (Daigle) Walsh. He attended Hartford High School. Bob graduated from the University of New Haven with a BA in Police Administration; he also graduated from American International College with a MS in Criminal Justice. In 1981, he graduated from the 126th session of the FBI National Academy. Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was stationed at Port Lyautey in Morocco. In 1960, he joined the West Hartford Police Department, rising to the rand of Assistant Chief of Police, in a career which spanned 36 years. After his retirement, he worked for Taylor & Modeen and Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Homes. For many years he was a coach in the West Hartford youth baseball and football leagues. Bob served many civic organizations; he was on the Advisory Board of the West Hartford Division of New Britain Construction Workshop, Board of Directors of the Bridge and Board of Managers for the West Hartford YMCA. He was a member of the Tin Can Sailors Association, American Legion and the Irish American Home Society. Bob's love of traveling led him to 48 states and countless countries. He was a communicant of St. Brigid Church and a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his three sons, Robert V. Walsh , III and his wife Lynn of Kensington, Steven Walsh and his wife Linda of Farmington and Timothy Walsh and his wife Jenna of Newington and his seven grandchildren, Elizabeth, Allison, Brendan, Conor, Patrick, Kathryn and Sean. He also leaves a niece Debra Davis, a nephew Richard Langford, as well as his special friend Carolyn Russell. The family would like to thank the staff at the Alzheimer's Resource Center of Connecticut and the Hospital of Central Connecticut for the compassionate care they provided Bob. Funeral procession will be Monday, (July 28),10:45 am from the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11:30 am at St. Brigid Church, West Hartford. Burial will be with military honors in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Calling hours will be Sunday, (July 27) from 5-8 pm at the funeral home.
