Robert J.  Rooney
Robert J. Rooney, 81, of East Granby, beloved husband of the late Eileen (Moynihan) Rooney, died Thursday, March 5, 2015, surrounded by his family at Cherry Brook Health Care Center. Born in Hartford, March 20, 1933, son of the late Francis J. and Kathryn (Buckley) Rooney. He was employed by Arborio Corporation until his retirement in 1996. He spent most of his youth on the baseball fields. He was proud to have played ball for Weaver High School and the Industrial League for Royal Typewriter. Bob was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After returning from the service, he married Eileen and he designed and built his home in East Granby. Bob was a member of St. Bernard’s Church in Tariffville and had a strong faith his entire life. Bob’s top priority was always his family. Bob was an incredibly devoted husband to his wife especially through her many years with Alzheimer’s. Bob cherished his time with his children and grandchildren. He attended many concerts, recitals, and sporting activities to cheer on his grandchildren. Bob enjoyed playing golf, piano, and working on projects around the house (always an engineer). Bob is survived by his loving children Katie Hudak and her husband Greg of Avon, Ann Hunter and her husband Bill of Medfield, MA, and Bobbie Peer and her husband Andy of Berkeley Heights, NJ. He leaves his sister Kathryn Quigley of Manchester and his sister Fran Gothers and her husband Jim of Wethersfield. He leaves 9 beloved grandchild, Sarah and Jen Hudak, Allie, Bobby, and Brian Hunter, and Drew, Michael, Caroline, and Brett Peer. He also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held at Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford on Monday, March 9, from 5-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bernard’s Church, 7 Maple St., Tariffville at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 10. Burial will follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Tariffville. Those who wish may send memorial contributions to American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org/donate).
