Obituary for Robert John Adams III

Robert J. Adams III, Starkel Road, West Hartford, Connecticut died suddenly on Monday, January 19, 2015. Born in Hartford on November 4, 1944, Bob was the son of Rose Adams (Buyvitt) and Robert J. Adams, Jr. who predeceased him. He was the second of four sons and his survivors include his brothers Thomas H. Adams (Noreen) of Southington, David P. Adams (Judith) of Middlebury, Vermont and Joseph P. Adams (Sharon) of Vernon with whom he shared a special bond and his sister Elizabeth A. Lagosh (Daniel) of Wethersfield and childhood friend Gerald House of South Windsor.

Raised in Hartford, Bob graduated from Weaver High School 1962, where he was a varsity letter member of the school football and gymnastics teams. Upon graduating from high school he began his long career in the printing trade during a time of rapid advancement in offset press methods. Skilled in all aspects of the trade Bob was a journeyman pressman for 40 years, who operated multicolor presses and contributed many years of skilled tradecraft to Connecticut Printers, Service Press of Hartford and Lithographic Print of Avon. In his later years, Bob worked as a Security Guard at ESPN in Bristol, Connecticut. He proudly served in the Connecticut National Guard from 1962 until 1966 and was honorably discharged as an E-4 Specialist.

In earlier years, Bob’s pastimes included golf, scuba diving, and hunting waterfowl. He was an avid UCONN men’s and women’s sports fan and a life long diehard Red Sox fan in a split Yankee/Red Sox household. A memorable highlight for Bob was his good fortune to stand at the plate, hit into the outfield and run the bases at Fenway during a Jimmy Fund fundraising event. In retirement, Bob enjoyed kite flying at Plum Island and was well known to the staff and servers at the Bishops Corner “Big Y” supermarket who knew him as “The Mayor” or the “Kielbasa King”. He will be remembered for his interest in others and his warm and generous spirit.

Bob’s most important interests were his children and his grandchildren. In addition to his siblings, his daughter Elissa A. Radmanovich and her husband, Ryan of West Hartford, and his son Robert J. Adams IV of Hartford, stepdaughter Jennifer Boland of West Hartford and eight grandchildren Britney Kiner, Eleanor, Indy, Ean, and Silas Adams, Ava and Sophia Radmanovich, and Melvin Boland survive him. His former wife and the mother of their children Annette Ledger Adams of Colchester, and former wife and best friend, Linda Kiner Adams of West Hartford, also survive him. He will be sadly missed by all of his nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews and extended family of friends who knew and loved him.
