Obituary for Ralph P. MacIntyre Jr.

Ralph P. MacIntyre, Jr. , 81, of West Hartford, CT, beloved husband of Arlene B. MacIntyre. He was born and raised in North Plainfield, NJ, the son of the late Anna Belle “Dolly” (Kirchner) and the late Ralph P. MacIntyre, Sr. After high school, he served in the U.S. Navy stationed in New London, CT. He was very proud of his service aboard the USS Fulton in the 1950’s. After his service in the Navy, he worked for 30 years in the main office of Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company (“CML”) on Garden Street in Hartford, CT. He also worked for Hebb & Gitlin in Hartford, CT. Ralph was active in many community organizations. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in West Hartford, where he taught Sunday School, served as an usher and as a vestry member. He was a member of many Masonic affiliated organizations. He was a Past Master of Wyllys-St. John’s Lodge # 4, AF & AM, in West Hartford. He was a Past Patron of Storer Chapter #73 and Newington Chapter #115, Order of the Eastern Star, and more recently a member of Good Intent Chapter #17. He was a 32nd degree member Scottish Rite (Valley of Hartford) and York Rite. He was a member of Sphinx Temple, Shriners, in Newington CT. He was a member of Order of Amaranth. Ralph enjoyed sports and was a fixture on several men’s league softball teams in the area from the late 1950’s to mid-1980’s. He was a fan of the New York Giants and Boston Red Sox. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed his deep sea fishing expeditions, especially with his brother Richard. He also enjoyed a casual round of golf with his sons and good friends. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Arlene (Brown) MacIntyre, his sons and daughters-in-law: Craig and Cherrie MacIntyre of Winsted CT; Glenn and Giovanna MacIntyre of West Hartford CT; his granddaughters: Amanda MacIntyre and Julia MacIntyre, both of West Hartford; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two brothers: Richard and Robert. Friends and family are invited to call on Friday, September 23, at Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, CT from 5:00 and 8:00 pm. A Masonic Service will be at 7:00 pm, preceded by an Eastern Star Service. Funeral Service will be Saturday, September 24, at 10:00 am, at Sheehan Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home.
