Obituary for Patricia Ann Theresa Kennedy

PATRICIA ANN THERESA KENNEDY. It is with sadness at our loss and great joy at her release that we inform you that Patricia has reached the end of her life. Patricia was the wife of Daniel F. Kennedy for 52 years, the mother of Deborah Kennedy, Annmarie Kennedy and her partner Andrew Royal, and Moira Capela (who predeceased her in 2004) and her husband Mario, the grandmother of Eva Kennedy and her husband Nathanial Martinez, Damien Kennedy and his partner Marisa Cotto, Elizabeth Capela, Nathan Kennedy and his partner Casey Skillins, Cristina Capela and Alexandra Capela, and great-grandmother to Alexis Kennedy, Nathanial Martinez, Gianna and Aedan Kennedy-Cotto and Asher Kennedy. Patricia was born in Lynn, MA on December 2, 1927 to Martin and Lillian Keegan. After attending local schools she received a Diploma in Nursing from The Carney Hospital School of Nursing in Boston, MA in 1948. In May of 1949, she joined first the Army then the Air Force as a military nurse. After raising her family she returned to school receiving a B.A. in Psychology, magna cum laude, from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT, attended the Religious Education program at Fairfield University Graduate School of Education and received a Masters in Library Science Degree from Southern Connecticut State University. Patricia’s education afforded her a wide range of employment beginning with Clinical Instructor & Student Advisor at St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing in Bridgeport, Director of Nursing Service and Infection Control Nurse at several long term care facilities, Parish Director of Education for the Diocese of Bridgeport, Medical Librarian for several academic libraries and Library Media Specialist for the New Haven School District. Patricia volunteered her time with many organizations including the Cub Scouts, Inner City 4-H, Marriage Encounter team leader, and a Catechist to name a few. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to The Fairfield Public Library, 1080 Old Post Road, Fairfield, CT 06824 or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at St. Brigid Church, 1088 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford, CT at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Avery Heights Section 3. The care Rita and her extended staff so lovingly gave to Patricia was greatly appreciated. Thank you.
