Nya T. DeMaio,69, of West Hartford loving wife of David DeMaio passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and friends on Tuesday, March 15, 2016. Nya was born September 13, 1946 in Portland, ME and was the daughter of the late Ernest and Rosamond (Jenkins) Ouellette. Nya attended Hartford schools and was a graduate of Prince Tech in Hartford obtaining her degree in Beauty Culture. She lived in West Hartford for over 30 years. Nya was a talented and skilled Hairdresser for many years, having worked in many top Hair Salon’s in West Hartford and surrounding towns. Nya was one of the first women in the Hartford area to open her own beauty salon. First she opened Hartford Hair Company in Hartford before she opened Hair Company West in West Hartford Center which she ran successfully from 1985 through 2004 as the owner and operator. Nya loved all styles of music, she also loved to read, garden, and decorate her home. She enjoyed doing arts & crafts and enjoyed working around the house in her spare time. Nya was truly loved by all and she was always there to lend a helping hand to friends and family. Nya possessed a beautiful smile and a true love for life. She could light up a room with her, style, grace and presence. Nya was the Matriarch of her family, organizing family gatherings, especially around the holidays. She especially loved spending time with her husband, children and her four grandchildren, Gabrielle, Jordyn, Kolby and Colleen. Nya has many fond memories of vacations at Cape Cod, MA and Newport, RI through the years. She is survived by her loving husband, David of West Hartford; her son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Kimberly Talbot of Colchester; her daughter, Sheila Bellizzi of West Hartford; her grandchildren, Kolby and Colleen Talbot of Colchester, and Jordyn and Gabrielle Bellizzi of West Hartford; a sister, Sheila Daniels of Ocean Springs, MS; a brother-in-law, Richard DeMaio of West Hartford; a sister-in-law, Linda DeMaio of South Windsor, and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence Chadbourne and a brother in-law, Dick Daniels. Funeral procession will be Friday, (March 18), 10:45 am from the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11:30 am at St. Brigid Church, West Hartford. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Calling hours are TODAY from 5 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
