Obituary for Nance Slocum (McClintock)

Nance (McClintock) Slocum, 80, passed away February 3, 2014 at the home she shared with her daughter in Chattanooga, TN. She was a native of Connecticut, where she was born, married and raised her family. It wasn't until diagnosed with bone cancer in 2011 that she moved from her CT home to TN. Nance was devoted to her family, loved to knit, bead, make woven rugs and was an accomplished artist. Nance was involved in Girl Scouts when her children were small. She was a member of Church of Christ Congregational in Newington. Nance loved New England and recently traveled home to visit and see her final snow fall this past Christmas. Nance and her husband loved Cape Cod, and vacationed there annually until his passing. She was predeceased by her loving husband, William H. Slocum, Sr., her sister Roberta "Bobby" Boss, and parents James and Gertrude McClintock. Nance leaves behind a son, William H. Slocum, Jr. and his wife Kathi of Burlington, VT; three daughters, Lynn Chmielorz of Chattanooga, TN, Cindi Slocum Campbell and her husband Thomas of Leicester, NC, and Pamela Slocum Young and her husband Richard of Belmont, VT; six grandchildren, Stephanie and William H Slocum III, Matthew and Zachary Campbell, Corie Jean and Steven Chmielorz, Jr. and one great grandchild, Suzanne Brewer.
Nance also leaves a sister Susan Walsh and her husband Richard of Melbourne, FL; a brother -in –law, Ronald Boss of Westminster, CA. and a sister –in- law; June Slocum Manning of Bloomfield and nieces and nephews,Marty and James Walsh, Jeffrey and Steven Boss, Debbie and Dean Manning.
She also leaves behind her loyal companion, Muffett. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to Connecticut Valley Girl Scouts or Newington Church of Christ Congregational campers fund in her name. There will be a memorial service to celebrate her life in June, followed by her ashes spread on the Bass River in Cape Cod to join her husband. Special thanks and appreciation is extended to her daughter Lynn for her loving and devoted care during her illness.
