Obituary for Mary Alice LaFlamme (Bablette)

Mary Alice (Boblett) LaFlamme, 84, of South Windsor, died peacefully in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, January 1, 2015. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Leo Paul LaFlamme. Born on June 24, 1930, she was raised on the family homestead in Stanaford, West Virginia, and was the oldest daughter of the late Charles Dillard Boblett and Pearle Mae (Millsap) Boblett. A sixty year resident of the Hartford area, she was employed by the Institute of Living for over thirty years prior to her retirement. Afterwards, she spent hours at home in the yard, every day watching, learning and helping her husband expand the garden and landscape: a family garden synonymous with creating life, love, laughs and memories. After leaving Hartford in 2008, Mary moved to South Windsor where she started new friendships and created new memories when she enrolled in the C.A.R.E.S. group at the South Windsor Senior Center. She spend three days a week with the comradery of friends, going on outings, participating in activities and other social functions. An avid reader since childhood and always the romantic, Mary had an insatiable appetite for romance novels. You could always find her with a book close by. Always there for friends, family and strangers alike, she willingly gave of herself asking for nothing in return. Everyone that has had the pleasure of meeting Mary will tell you how sweet she was, with a mischievous sense of humor and smile that could brighten anyone’s day. Mary was a strong and feisty matriarch of our family and lives up to her nickname, “Flame”. She will forever burn in our hearts. A tenacious and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Mary devoted her life to her family. She leaves behind her beloved daughters: Theresa Wojtanowski and her husband, Joe of Windsor; Elizabeth Bonnie Sullivan and her husband, Keith of Broad Brook; her two treasured grandchildren: Christina Wojtanowski, who she lived with and shared a special bond; Jonathan Wojtanowski and his wife, Joy of Somers along with her three great grandchildren: Sophia, Emma and Jack Wojtanowski who she cherished deeply and wholeheartedly. She also leaves a brother, William Boblett of Chicago, Illinois; a sister, Doris Faye Pishner of Stanaford, West Virginia; many nieces and nephews, and her former coworker and long time best friend, Juanita Neal of Hartford. Her family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the remarkable caregivers provided by Hartford Healthcare at Home (formerly VNA Hospice) during her final hours. Funeral Service will be Monday, (Jan.5), 11:00 at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford. Burial will be private. Calling hour will be prior to the funeral service from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the South Windsor Senior Center, 150 Nevers Rd., South Windsor, CT 06074. Online condolences may be made at www.SheehanHilbornBreen.com.
