Obituary for Lydia Gerz

Lydia Gerz, 91, beloved wife of the late Peter Gerz, died Sunday, December 4, 2016. She was born in Crimea, Russia. During the Nazi Occupation of WWII, Lydia was taken for forced labor on a German farm for three and half years. There she met Peter who was a Polish army soldier, also a prisoner. After the war they came to the United States and settled in Connecticut. Lydia worked at Travelers Insurance Co. for 40 years in the Casualty, Property Accounting. She enjoyed spending summers at Connecticut beaches. Her family always came first. When she first retired, she took interest in many activities at several senior centers. She loved music, ballroom and country line dancing. Lydia helped new arrivals from Europe by translating, couching and solving problems. Lydia leaves her loving children, her daughter, Lydia and her son, Edward and his wife Valerie. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Walter.
Funeral services were private. The Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, has care of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be made at www.SheehanHilbornBreen.com
