Obituary for Leonard Edward Trojanowski, Esq.

Leonard Edward  Trojanowski, Esq.
Leonard Edward Trojanowski, Esq., age 67 of West Hartford, passed away Friday, September 20, 2013 in his home with his wife Mayrita (Corsillo) Trojanowski and his daughters at his side. After many years of courageously living with Huntington’s Disease, Len passed in peace.
Len was born in Newport News, VA on November 2, 1945 to the late Leonard Sr., and Jean (Kennedy) Trojanowski, Leonard was graduated from Fairfield University in 1967, and attended the University of CT Law School until he was drafted into the army. He served in the US Army in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970 -SP5 JAGC, 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, “Big Red One.” His Commendations include: Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Vietnam Gallantry Cross. Upon his return, he completed his UConn law studies and received his Juris Doctor in 1977.
He was admitted to the Connecticut Bar in 1973 and the Federal District Court in 1974.
Leonard began his career as an attorney as an Assistant Corporation Council for the City of Norwalk 1974-78. He was admitted to the Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in 1978. From 1978-80 he was an associate for Gordon, Muir & Foley. From 1980-82, as sole practitioner, Len represented corporations and the Hartford Municipal Supervisors Union. During this period, he ran for Town Council West Hartford, and was a member of the Finance Advisory Board for West Hartford. He was president of the Wolcott School PTA, West Hartford, and coached the West Hartford town girl’s soccer league.
From 1992-96 he worked as senior attorney for Aetna Life & Casualty, Hartford. 1996-98 he was an attorney for Travelers Property Casualty Division, Hartford.
In January of 1999, Leonard was appointed by Governor John G. Rowland as a Human Rights referee to the Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities. This position, in particular, afforded Len the chance to champion the rights of the underprivileged.
Leonard took an early retirement in July of 2007.
Leonard was an avid runner for over 20 years, competing in countless races, 10Ks, and ½ marathons. He was a member of the Hartford Track Club and completed the New York City Marathon in 1984.
Leonard was a devoted, loving husband, father and grandfather. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 41 years, Mayrita (Corsillo) Trojanowski, his daughter Heather Hankard and son-in-law Ryan Hankard, his daughter Sonya Trojanowski, his adoring granddaughters Sabrinna Fabi, Alyssa Hankard and Amaya Trojanowski. He will be fondly remembered by his mother-in-law Myrtle Corsillo and the extended Corsillo family.

Calling hours are Tuesday (September 24), 6:00-8:00pm, at the Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, (September 25) at 10:00am at St. James’s Episcopal Church, 1018 Farmington Ave. , West Hartford, followed by a burial at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford with military honors.
