Jose Mendes Carreira, 88, of Glastonbury, beloved husband of Maria Jesus Carreira, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2017. Born in Reguengo do Fetal, Portugal, he emigrated to Canada and came to the U.S. in 1966. Jose worked in construction and was the owner of the Lafayette Package Store for many years. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by a son Jose Manuel Carreira of Hartford; a daughter Clidia R. Espirito Santo and her husband Jack of Glastonbury; a sister Maria Regina Marques and her husband Fernando of South Windsor; five grandchildren, David Espirito Santo (Elsa), Neil Espirito Santo (Cindy), Jennifer E.S. Ware (Joshua), Sabrina Wentworth (Jason) and Vanessa Coan (Caleb) and eight great-grandchildren, Leila, Lola, Catarina, Jose, Juliana, Scarlett, Olivia and Curtis. Funeral procession will be Thursday, (March 16), 10:30 am from the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford. Entombment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Calling hours are prior to funeral from 9:00 to 10:30 am at the funeral home. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Marlborough Healthcare for their compassionate care. A Seven Day Mass will be Sunday, (March 19), at 11:45 am at the Church.
