John D.  Mulhearn
John D. Mulhearn, 79, of West Hartford, beloved husband of the late Barbara (Kiley) Mulhearn, passed away on December 9, 2013. Born on November 27, 1934 in Worchester, MA, he was the son of the late Edward and Beatrice (Allaire) Mulhearn and moved to West Hartford over 44 years ago. John was a communicant of St. Peter Claver Church. He grew up in Worcester, MA, and graduated from St. John Prep School. He was proud of his service in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1958. John served aboard the USS Bennington and USS Ticonderoga and traveled the world. He was an Honors Graduate of the University of Massachusetts. He started his career as a Golf Course Superintendent at the Dutchess Golf Club in Poughkeepsie, New York, later moving on to Wampanoag Golf Club and Stanley Golf Course. In retirement he enjoyed his grandchildren, gardening and woodworking. John is survived by his four sons John W. and his wife Pamela Mulhearn of Sandwich, MA, Thomas J. and his wife Cynthia Mulhearn of Southington, Michael F. and his wife Deborah Mulhearn of Sterling, VA, and William D. and his wife Claire Mulhearn of McFarland WI, and nine grandchildren. John was predeceased by two brothers, Gerald and Edward Mulhearn, and one sister, Joan Fitzgerald. Funeral procession will be Saturday, December 14, 9:00 am from the Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 am at St. Peter Claver Church, 47 Pleasant St., West Hartford. Burial with military honors will follow in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Friends may call on Friday, December 13, from 5-8pm at the funeral home.
