Obituary for John Gaynor McTigue III

John Gaynor McTigue III, 74, of West Hartford, beloved husband of 48 years to Anna “Jean” (Bruno) McTigue, died peacefully Thursday, July 27, 2017 with his family by his side. Along with his wife, he leaves behind five children – Jeanne, Kathy, Tara, Colleen, and John Jr., as well as siblings Mark McTigue (Kathy), Genevieve Shore (Norman D'Cruz) and Gerard McTigue (Beth), as well as several nieces and nephews.
Born in Flushing, New York in 1943 to the late John Gaynor McTigue II and Elaine McTigue Tirdell, he was raised in Manhattan, where he met his wife Jean, and for which he never lost his affinity as a true New Yorker. He was an avid sports fan, who loved golfing, horseracing, and especially his beloved New York Yankees. For the sake of his daughters, he also learned to love the Mets. He spent the final 34 years of his life residing in West Hartford, and retired from a career in the insurance industry in 2004. He worked as a Director of Group Health for both Aetna and Cigna. He was an active member at St. Helena’s church, serving for many years on the Parish Council, as a Eucharistic Minister, and teaching CCD.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-5 PM at Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave, West Hartford. A mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday 10:00 AM at St. Helena’s Church on 30 Echo Lane, West Hartford. Everyone is asked to meet at the Church.
