Obituary for John Brendan McCann

John Brendan  McCann
John Brendan McCann, 75, of West Hartford, loving husband of Lawreen T McCann for 41 years, died unexpectedly Wednesday June 13. Brendan was born April 29, 1937 in Moate, Co. Westmeath, Ireland to James and Ellen (Killeen) McCann. Besides his wife he is survived by his sons Brendan McCann of Wethersfield, Sean McCann and his wife Dina of West Hartford; his brothers Paddy and Michael in Ireland; his sisters Mary of East Hartford, Nellie, Kitty, and Lillie in Ireland; sister-in-law Mary McCann; nephew Ronnie McCann and wife Dee; niece Peggy Guinan;
the Downing family nieces and nephews; and the McCann nieces and nephews in Ireland; and his most precious gift his grandchildren Ciara, Shealyn, and Declan. Brendan came to America in August of 1970 and married his soul mate in September of 1971. He had a love for music playing the accordion his whole life winning an all Ireland title along the way. A passionate carpenter Brendan worked on projects in Ireland, London, and West Hartford building bridges at Spice Bush and Westmoor Park along with many rain shelters on Rockledge Golf course. His other creations always included his sons right by his side. He worked at the Town of West Hartford for 30 years in many different departments but the one he enjoyed the most was working with his many friends at the Police department, thank you. After retiring dad got a trailer and mower and began cutting lawns with his sons because all he knew was how to work. His greatest passion though was being Papa to his grandchildren. Brendan is predeceased by his parents, brothers Gene and James, and sister Theresa.
