Obituary for Helen Schumsky (Jasapova)

Helen (Jasapova) Schumsky, 89, of West Hartford, beloved wife of the late Stefan Schumsky, passed away peacefully at her home, Tuesday, December 23, 2014. Born in Kiev, Ukraine, she lived in the Hartford area since 1956. Prior to her retirement Helen was employed at the Institute of Living, Hartford. She is survived by a daughter Margaret Secor and her husband Thomas of Burlington; ten grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Helen was predeceased by a daughter Maria Bouchard and two sons, Victor Schumsky and Roman Schumsky. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday (Dec. 29) at 10:00 am at St. John the Baptist Byzantine Church, 26 New London Turnpike, Glastonbury. Everyone is requested to meet at Church. Burial will be in St. Michael's Ukrainian Cemetery, Glastonbury. Calling hours are Sunday, (Dec. 28) from 4-6 pm at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford. There will be a Panahida Prayer Service at 5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael's Ukrainian Church, 135 Wethersfield Ave., Hartford, CT 06114 or the Helen and Harry Grey Cancer Center, 80 Seymour St., Hartford, CT 06102-5037.
