On the morning of November 12, 2015, Hazel passed away peacefully of natural causes. She was being visited and comforted by family members at her granddaughter’s home in South Windsor. Hazel was 91 years old and was born in the town of Rupert, VT on July 26, 1924. She resided at 44 Manchester Circle in West Hartford, CT for over 50 years. Hazel was one of 10 children and the daughter of Pearl King and George McKeighan. She worked as a waitress at the Coffee House in Elmwood, CT for several years and prior she worked at a nursing home in Ticonderoga, NY. Her family was everything to her, and she loved her children very much. She loved to bowl and was on several leagues. She enjoyed dancing and listening to country music. Hazel was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Baron, and two husbands prior, Earl LaFountain and Milford Smith, also by her son Reginald Smith, and her daughter Shirley Smith, and eight brothers and sisters. Hazel is survived by her 8 remaining children, JoAnn and husband Richard Parker of Granville, NY, Nancy and husband Charles Gould of Southington, Richard and wife Ellen Smith of Hampton, NY, Valerie Longo of Hartford, Regina and husband David Prusak of Stark, FL, Crystal and husband David Grenier of Newington, Earlene LaFountain of East Hartford, Cindy and husband Brian Gauthier of West Hartford. She is also survived by her sister Pearl and husband Larry Fales. She was loved by 19 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren that she adored and cherished. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Masonicare, Hospice services, especially Nurse Sharon, and Nurse’s Aide Joann, as they took very special care of her for almost 6 months. Calling hours are Sunday, (Nov. 15), from 2-5 pm at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford. The Funeral Service will be Monday, (Nov.16), 1:00 pm at the Elmwood Community Church, Newington Rd., West Hartford. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford.
