Obituary for Genevieve M. Mascolo

Genevieve M.  Mascolo
Genevieve M. Mascolo, 94, of West Hartford, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 19, 2015. She was a resident of West Hartford and spent her last years at Hughes Health & Rehab in West Hartford, in residence with her sister Mildred and many friends and caregivers. Genevieve grew up in Hartford and graduated from Bulkeley High School in 1938. The oldest of seven children, she was predeceased by her parents, Erasmo and Girolama Mascolo; two brothers, Joseph Mascolo of Hartford and Louis Mascolo of Newington. She is survived by three sisters and one brother, Mildred Ryla of Hughes Health and formerly of South Windsor, Gloria Avignone and her husband John of Wethersfield and West Palm Beach, FL, Rita Kelly and her husband Howard of West Hartford and Guilford and her youngest brother, Edward Mascolo and his wife JoAnn of West Hartford and Jupiter, FL. She also leaves behind countless nephews and nieces; grandnephews and grandnieces. Gen was the matriarch of her family, and was loved and appreciated by all family members to whom she showed much generosity, selflessness and kindness. Genevieve worked at SNET for over 40 years and was a member of the Pioneers Club of Active and Retired Telephone Workers and a parishioner of St. Brigid Church, West Hartford. Genevieve enjoyed the simple things in life. She took joy in traveling, playing cards, walking her pet dog, "Lady" and attending events with family and friends.
Funeral procession will be Friday, (Feb. 27), 9:15 am from the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 :00 am at St. Brigid Church, West Hartford. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. The family will receive friends on Thursday, (Feb. 26), from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Brigid School, 100 Mayflower St., West Hartford, CT 06110.
