Obituary for Esther Mae Ringquist (Leavenworth )

Esther Mae Leavenworth Ringquist, 92, of Hartford, formerly of Springfield, Vermont, died peacefully on July 19, 2015 due to complications from a hip fracture. Esther is survived by daughters Lois (Loie) Gray, Martha Patwell, Cilla Suprak; sons Kenny and David; 15 grand children and 17 great grandchildren.

Esther was the only daughter in a family of 5 boys. She met the love of her life, husband Bill, deceased in 2011, in Kindergarten; they were married at age 19 for 69 years. Together they raised 6 children in Westminster Mass, Perkinsville, Vermont and then Springfield. She was a stay-at-home mom, a girl scout leader and leader of a local women’s coffee club. When kid’s college bills came, Esther worked as a bank teller and then as a bookkeeper at Bibens Home Center in Springfield. She excelled at sewing clothes for her three girls, quilting, knitting, baking (the best Toll House cookies on earth!), cooking, gardening and making her home the warmest, most inviting place for anyone who visited. Her family was her life and she loved every minute of her time with them. She was a dedicated member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Springfield where she volunteered countless hours of her time in support of furthering God’s work, including hospice work, alter guild, and contributing to many church suppers. Esther was a consummate talker and always enjoyed socializing with her many friends in Vermont. Esther and Bill enjoyed retirement with kids and grand kids at their home on Cape Cod.

Esther’s final years were spent at Avery Heights in Hartford; she would often say “they always take good care of me here”. There she looked forward to every visit from family, to reminiscing, and to New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox games. For on-line condolences please visit: www.SheehanHilbornBreen.com
