Esmeraldino "Dino"  Goncalves
Esmeraldino “Dino” Goncalves (December 25, 1935 – June 7, 2014) of Hartford passed away peacefully at home after a long illness. He was predeceased by his wife Herminia Goncalves and daughter Isabel Long. He leaves behind his second wife Maria Calhas, his constant and caring companion, his daughter Maria “Amy” Goncalves and her fiancé Dr. Christopher Penta of Windsor; granddaughter Jessica Long of Wethersfield and two brothers, John and Lucino. He was the dearly beloved grandfather figure of Tiago, Andrea, and Leandro Duarte of Hartford and stepfather to Manuel and Susana Duarte, Afonso and Gracinda Duarte. He also leaves behind family and friends in Portugal, France, Africa and Canada. He served in the Portuguese navy, the adventure of his lifetime. For many years he worked with athletes at Ginasio Clube Portuges in Lisbon. He also worked in the construction industry at Iberopa in Portugal and Har-Conn Company in Connecticut. He visited his native Portugal, loved gardening, wine making, and hunting. He was a devoted fan of Benfica, his favorite soccer team. He will be remembered fondly for his sense of humor and love of family and friends. Funeral procession will be Wednesday, (June 11), 9:00 am from the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 am in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Calling hours will be Tuesday, (June 10), from 5 to 8 pm at the funeral home.
