Obituary for Ermelinda Rego Chaves

Ermelinda Rego Chaves, 79, beloved wife of the late Manuel Melo Cabral, passed away peacefully Monday, February 20, 2017. Born in Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Antonio Chaves and Deolinda Sousa Rego. She came to the U.S. 40 years ago and retired from Power Systems. Ermelinda was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church. Ermelinda is survived by her loving four children Mariazinha Costa and her husband Julio, Gracinda Lavado and her husband Agostinho, Duarte Nuno Cabral and his wife Anna and her cherished son Antonio M. Cabral; three grandchildren Christopher and Brian Lavado and Giulia Luisa Cabral. One of 9 children, Ermelinda was predeceased by her sisters Beatriz Rego, Maria Lurdes Arruda and Laura Batista. She is survived by her sisters Conceição and Leonor Chaves both of Fall River MA, José Chaves and his wife Filomena of Tiverton, RI, Maria Helena and her brother Manuel Chaves both of Montreal, Canada. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Zenália Raposo of Newington and Fernanda Melo Cabral of East Hartford and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, February 23 at 11 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford. Entombment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. To honor her wishes, friends are asked to meet directly at church. Family calling hours are at 9 am at Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, West Hartford.
