Obituary for Elizabeth "Bette" Droney (Burke)

Elizabeth "Bette" Droney (Burke)
Elizabeth "Bette" (Burke) Droney, 88, of West Hartford, beloved wife of the late John "Jack" A. Droney, died Wednesday, March 11, 2015. Born in Torrington, Bette lived in West Hartford over 60 years. She attended Highland Heights and graduated from Torrington High School in 1943. Always ready to pitch in where needed, Bette worked for a local newspaper and as an administrative assistant at a local bank in Burlington, Vermont, while her husband attended college. Very devoted to raising her family, Bette and Jack still managed to get away to Las Vegas, from time to time, where she was known to play a slot machine or two. Bette's perceptive nature, sharp wit and compassionate common sense approach to life naturally drew people to her. Even people she just met wanted to tell her their story and get her opinions. It was truly amazing to watch people open up to her. She will be sorely misses by her friends and family. Bette is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, John A."Shawn" Droney. III of West Hartford and Timothy Droney and his wife Rita of West Hartford and four grandchildren, Andrew J., Daniel P., Neil T., and Eileen Katherine Droney all of West Hartford. Bette was predeceased by a daughter, Elizabeth "Lee Ann" Lowe. Funeral procession will be Monday, March 16, 9:00 am from the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 am in St. Thomas the Apostle, 872 Farmington Ave., West Hartford. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Calling hours will be Sunday, March 15 from 3 to 6 pm at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.SheehanHilbornBreen.com.
