Obituary for Edmund J. Haverty Jr.

Edmund J.  Haverty Jr.
Edmund J. Haverty, Jr. passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family. Edmund was born July 28, 1936, son of the late Edmund J., Sr. and Fidelia (Girard) Haverty. Ed was raised in West Hartford, attended West Hartford schools and graduated from Dean College. Edmund along with his brother Jerry, and then later with his two sons, owned and operated E.J. Haverty Inc., a paving business located in West Hartford.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Virginia (Merz) Haverty, son Edmund, III and his wife Patia, daughter Karen Callahan and her husband Sean, son Timothy and his wife Jennifer; brother Girard and his wife Beverly, sister June and her husband Lindy Remigino, and many nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, John, Marisa, Faith, Gillian and Collette, who he loved dearly. Edmund was a Corporator of St. Francis Hospital for many years and a longtime member of Wampanoag Country Club. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to his caregiver Alex Nyamenkye, whose love and care brought him much comfort for which the family is extremely grateful. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter Claver Church, 47 Pleasant Street, West Hartford. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. There are no calling hours. Donations may be made in his memory to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, New York, N.Y. 10163-4777.
