Obituary for Claire Girardini (Zielinski)

Claire (Zielinski) Girardini,79, of West Hartford, wife of the late Lewis J. Girardini, passed away on April 6, 2016. Born in Bridgeport, daughter of the late Romuald J. and Mary V. (Pistey) Zielinski, she was a graduate of the Academy of Our Lady of Mercy, Lauralton Hall, Class of 1954 in Milford. She immediately entered the Sisters of Mercy Novitiate in Madison and became a nun with the name of Sister Mary Clare. She taught in diocesan parochial schools in Manchester and Danbury. For health reasons, she was transferred to Mercyknoll in West Hartford when it opened, and was in charge of the hematology lab. Claire left the Order for medical reasons being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, but remained an Associate of the Sisters of Mercy. She eventually met and married Lewis Girardini in 1970. Claire was employed by the office of Dr. Vecchiola in West Hartford and volunteered for several years as an instructor at the American School for the Deaf. Over the past 13 years she has been residing at Mercyknoll and St. Mary Home due to her medical limitations. She is survived by her two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lawrence Zielinski and his wife, Susan of Redding and Dr. John Zielinski and his wife, Jo of Ocean Springs, MS and many nieces and nephews. Claire was predeceased by a sister, Rita Marie Buzzard. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, (April 11), 11:30 am in the Church of St. Brigid, 1088 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford. The calling hours will be prior to the funeral Mass from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her name to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 659 Tower Ave, Hartford, CT 06112.
