Carolyn Mary (Welsh) Loughlin

Carolyn Mary (Welsh) Loughlin, 81, of Punta Gorda, FL and formerly of Avon and W. Hartford, CT passed away December 11, 2012. Born in Hartford, CT on May 28, 1931 to John Francis and Joan (nee Sullivan) Welsh, she was the beloved wife of Francis Cameron Loughlin whom she married on September 10, 1955. After living in Connecticut for many years, she and her husband became “snowbirds” in 1999 and finally sold their Avon, CT home in 2009 to be full time residents of Punta Gorda. Carolyn was a graduate of Mt. St. Joseph Academy in W Hartford (1949), St Mary’s School and Junior College of Raleigh, NC (1951) and was certified at Katharine Gibbs School, New York City (1952). After over 27 years of being in the business world, Carolyn attended the University of Connecticut nights for eight years to obtain her Bachelor’s Degree in 1987. Of this, she was very proud. She was active in and a past President of the Hartford Chapter of the National Secretaries Assoc. and a past President of the Hartford Junior Woman’s Club. While in retirement at Emerald Pointe in Punta Gorda, she enjoyed being active in the Ladies Bridge Group and as recording secretary for the Board of Directors of the Emerald Pointe Condominium Assoc, Inc. She was also a member of their Finance Committee.

She is survived by her husband Francis “Frank” C. Loughlin of Punta Gorda, FL; beloved sons, Brian Keith Loughlin of Unionville, CT and Cameron Ford Loughlin of Grand Junction, CO; grandchildren, Keith Francis Loughlin; Patrick John (Rachel) Loughlin of Glastonbury; Mikayla Brienne Loughlin of Grand Junction, CO and Dominic Brown of LaJunta, CO; great grandson, Aidan Gregory Sulliman of Amston, CT; sister, Virginia Welsh Allender of Thousand Oaks, CA; brother, Robert H. (Barbara) Welsh of Old Saybrook and New York City; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, John Ford Welsh (twin to Robert H. Welsh) and her parents.

Funeral procession will be Saturday, December 29, at 9:45am from the Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford, followed by a mass by Christian Burial at 10:30 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, West Hartford. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, 8:30-9:45 AM.
