Obituary for Bertha T. Dupuis (Fournier)

Bertha T. Dupuis (Fournier)
Bertha T. Dupuis, of West Hartford passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon, November 16, 2014. She celebrated her 100th birthday on September 30, 2014. She truly led a remarkable life. Born in Fort Kent, ME, she lived in Hartford for 33 years before moving to West Hartford in 1967. She was the daughter of George and Delina (Cote’) Fournier. Bertha was married to Rene R. Dupuis for 45 wonderful years before his death in 1979. Bertha’s life was always guided by her strong faith in the Lord. She was an active member of St. Lawrence O’Toole parish in Hartford, where she was President of The Rosary Altar Society. Upon moving to West Hartford, she was a daily attendee of mass at the Church of St. Helena. She was an avid reader, loved taking care of her yard and gardens, and enjoyed traveling and playing cards. At the age of 85, she received a laptop computer from her family and learned to email grandchildren and play countless hours of bridge online; she even had a Facebook page. Everyone who knew Bertha will always remember her love of cooking and baking, which included many elaborate dinners and an always full cookie jar for family and friends who happened to stop by. She loved to entertain and always hosted family holiday dinners , usually for a crowd of 25 or more. She took up golf at the age of 65 at the urging of her sister and best friend, Julie Fournier. Together they would play 2-3 times per week in West Hartford during the summers, and in Pompano, FL, where Bertha maintained a winter residence. She made a hole-in-one at the age of 83. Throughout a long life that included varied interests, travel and friends, Bertha’s family remained the center of her world. She was a devoted wife and mother. In addition to her husband Rene, she was predeceased by two sons; Raynald R. Dupuis and Richard N. Dupuis, along with Richard’s wife Patricia (Barnwell) Dupuis. She is survived by a daughter, Muriel D. Fisher of Glastonbury; sons, Rene E. Dupuis and his wife LouAnn of South Windsor and Bruce C. Dupuis and his wife Holli of Old Lyme. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Amy Dupuis of South Glastonbury. Bertha will always be known as Mim to her sixteen grandchildren; Muriel’s children, Craig Fisher, Lisa Fisher, Mark Fisher and Michelle Fisher; Richard’s children, Sheila Green, Laura Guzzi, Donna Dawson and Philip Dupuis; Raynald’s children, Danielle Dupuis, Nicole Putnam, Michael Dupuis and Ryan Dupuis; Rene’s son, Patrick Dupuis and stepson, Jered Pasay; and Bruce’s children, Olivia Cavasina, Robert Dupuis and Anne Dupuis. Additionally, she will always be remembered as Big Mim to 17 great grandchildren. The Dupuis family would like to thank three very special people who cared for Bertha during her last two years. Kim, Jasmine and Beth provided Bertha the attention and loving care that allowed her to live out her final years the way she lived her life, with dignity, style and grace. For that, we are so very appreciative. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November 20 at 10:00 AM, at The Church of St. Helena, Echo Lane, West Hartford. Entombment will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Calling hours are Wednesday, November 19, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford. Memorial contributions in Bertha’s name may be made to either Connecticut Children’s Medical Center or The American Heart Association.
