Bernard "Bernie" P.  Maffucci
Bernard “Bernie” Maffucci, 88, of Wethersfield, beloved husband of Theresa (Amato) Maffucci, peacefully went to meet his heavenly Father on Saturday, November 19, 2016, with his wife, Terrie at his side. Born in Brooklyn N.Y., son of the late Vincent and Josephine (DeMaio) Maffucci. Bernie attended Hartford schools and was a resident of Wethersfield for 53 years. Employed at GMAC as a bookkeeper for most of his career, he also worked for Hartford Hospital part time until he was 80 years old. Bernie was an avid runner and qualified for the Boston Marathon at the of age 57. He enjoyed traveling to his home country of Italy many times with family and friends and was a huge sports fan. He never missed watching a UCONN girls’ basketball game with Terrie. Bernie enjoyed classical music, old movies, and was a history and geography buff from way back. Bernie was a Korean War Veteran where he served as a Staff Sgt. in the US Army’s, 1’st Armored Infantry Unit, Fort Hood, TX. His greatest joy was his family to whom he was devoted. Besides his wife, Theresa of 59 years, he leaves his children, Mary VanDerlinden and husband Clinton, Sarah Fournier and husband Paul, James Maffucci and wife Tina, Michael Maffucci, Rosanne Maffucci and John Maffucci; his sisters, Marie Rinella, and Anne Iacino and husband John; grandchildren, C.J. and Stephanie VanDerlinden, Samantha and Susan Fournier, Adriana and Isabella Maffucci, Alex and Max Maffucci, Christina and Amanda Cefaratti and Sean Maffucci; great-grandchildren, Carter and Abby Errico. Bernie was blessed with many special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Vincent "Jim" Maffucci and his wife Marie and his brother Joe Maffucci and his wife Philomena and brothers-in-law, Bill Yanelli and John Rinella. Special thanks to the caregivers at St. Francis Hospital and Glastonbury Health Care Center for their outstanding compassionate care! A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, (November 23), 11:00 am at the Church of Incarnation, 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield. Everyone is requested to meet at the Church. Burial will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield with military honors. Calling hours will be Tuesday, (November 22), from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford.
