Obituary for Barbara Coppen (Duffy)

Barbara  Coppen (Duffy)
Barbara (Duffy) Coppen, 69, beloved wife of Donald H. Coppen passed away peacefully Thursday, July 24, 2014 with her family at her bedside. Barb was born in Waterbury, October 10, 1944, daughter of the late Joseph and Adele (Senick) Duffy. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart School, Waterbury and Southern Connecticut State University, New Haven. Barbara was a teacher in the Bristol Public School System and then taught in the BOCES School System in Long Island, NY. Barbara was blessed to have been able to be a stay-at-home mom while raising her family. After the children were grown, she rejoined the working world at the Hartford Insurance Co. retiring in 1998 as Assistant Vice President in the Retirement Business. Barbara was able to enjoy the winter seasons in Melbourne Beach, FL for the past 12 years. She loved sitting on the front porch overlooking the ocean and attending her weekly rug hooking sessions with her friends. Barb and Don were very fortunate to have been able to travel in the United States as well as going to Australia, China, Norway and Denmark. In Farmington, she also loved her weekly gatherings with her friends at the Farmington Library for rug hooking. Above all, Barbara especially loved her six grandchildren. Besides her husband, Donald, Barbara is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Barry and Penny (Leeman) Coppen, of Avon and Matthew and Stephanie (Delaney) Coppen of Atlanta, GA; six grandchildren, Jake, Brooke and Luke Coppen and Cameron, Rachel and Deacon Coppen; three brothers and 2 sisters-in-law, Christopher and Gail Duffy of Farmington, and their children, Stephanie and Alexandra ; Michael and Elaine Duffy of Watertown and Mark Duffy of Cheshire; a sister, Ann Anusewicz of Hawaii and her daughter, Katie and an uncle and aunt, Herbert and Mary Reichenback of Bethlehem. Calling hours will be Monday, July 28 5-8pm at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford. The funeral service will be Tuesday, July 29, 10:00 am at Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home. Burial will be private.
