Anita (Thisdale) Monahan, 81 of New Britain and formerly of West Hartford, beloved wife of 59 years to Edward Monahan was taken home suddenly and entered her eternal resting place in heaven on August 2, 2017 surrounded by the loving warmth of her family. Anita was born on January 20,1936 in Middletown, to her late parents Camille and Beatrice (Robida) Thisdale. Anita married the love of her life Edward F. Monahan Sr. on October 4th, 1958.
During her married life Anita worked part time at Friendly’s and CVS Pharmacy, but her main focus was always the health and happiness of her three children and two grandchildren. After raising her three children one of the things Anita loved doing the most was taking bus trips with her husband to various destinations such as Nashville, TN and Lancaster, PA. Two of her most memorable trips with her husband were anniversary gifts from her children to both Hawaii and Europe where on these trips they always made some lifelong friends. She was an avid sports fan and especially loved watching the girls UCONN woman’s basketball and always staying up late to watch the Red Sox games with her husband Ed. Anita was an avid reader who enjoyed romance novels and was constantly calling the New Britain Public Library for the most recent books especially those of Danielle Steele. One of the things Anita never missed and enjoyed the most was getting her hair done every Saturday morning. She always loved talking and singing songs with her friends at the hairdressers.
A loving wife, mother and grandmother Anita will be forever missed by her husband Edward F. Monahan Sr. ,her three children, Michael E. Monahan of New Britain, formally of West Hartford, Edward F. Monahan Jr. of East Windsor, Sheryl A. Desroches and husband Bryan of Berlin and her two grandchildren, Danny and Emily. She is also survived by her four sisters, Jacqueline, Lucille, Marianne and Claire along with brother, Camille. Anita was predeceased by her sister, Philomene. She is also survived many loving in-laws, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Funeral procession will be Tuesday, August 8th, 9:15 am from the Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10 a.m. at St. Marks the Evangelist Church, 467 South Quaker Lane, West Hartford. The burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Calling hours and a celebration of Anita’s life will be held Monday, August 7th from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
