Dorothy (Mezzanotte) DeVito, 85 of West Hartford, died Saturday, (April 9, 2016) in the comfort of her home, with her family by her side. She was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and came to CT when she married her husband of 59 years, the late Andrew C. DeVito. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Angelina (Caruso) Mezzanotte and the sister of the late John Mezzanotte. Although, Dorothy lived in CT for 65 years she was a true “New Yorker” at heart. She was employed by Hartford National Bank/Connecticut National Bank, as a teller and later a customer service representative. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Mark the Evangelist Parish where she met and served side by side with her closest friends. Her service to others was how most people came to know and love Dorothy. She spent many tireless hours working at Church and school events. Later in life she volunteered in the community as a tutor teaching adult students from other countries how to read and speak English. She also swam at Cornerstone Aquatic Center, ran the setback club at the Elmwood Community Center and worked as a site supervisor for the town on election days. Dorothy was an avid sports fan who spent many hours at her children and grandchildren’s games. In her spare time she also cheered on the Boston Red Sox and the UConn Huskies. Her passions were family, friends and faith. She leaves behind her daughter Theresa St. Gelais and son-in-law Roger St. Gelais, daughter Frances Ciotto, son Michael DeVito and daughter-in-law Margaret "Peggy" DeVito, daughter Andrea Hoisl and son-in-law Thomas Hoisl. She was a devoted grandmother to Dominick Ciotto Jr, Michelle Ciotto, Jennifer and Lewis Pappariella, Jeffrey St. Gelais, Jessica St. Gelais, Maggie DeVito, Emily DeVito, Andrew DeVito, Katie DeVito, Matthew Hoisl, Becky Hoisl and Sarah Hoisl. She was also blessed with a great-granddaughter Kaylee Pappariella. A special thank you to all the caregivers that helped Dorothy rest comfortably at home, especially Evelyn who helped take care of her for the past three years.
