Obituary for William P. Murphy

William P. Murphy,88, of West Hartford, beloved husband of Geraldine (Meskill) Murphy, died Saturday, November 1, 2014. Born in Hartford, son of the late William P. and Theresa (Lacafta) Murphy, he had lived in West Hartford for over 50 years. Bill was a retired Lieutenant with the Hartford Fire Department after 41 years of dedicated service. Bill loved the camaraderie of the Hartford Fire Department, where he was a member of the Emerald Society, the Florian Society and the Benevolent Society. Bill was an avid golfer and a member of the Men’s Club at Rockledge Golf Course, West Hartford. He treasured his golfing buddies and the time he spent at Rockledge. Bill was also a member of the VFW, Hannon-Hatch, Post 9929 and a communicant of St. Peter Claver Church, West Hartford. Bill joined the US Navy at the age of 17 to fight in WWII. He served at the invasion in Normandy, and later the Pacific Theatre on the L.S.T 494. Bill lived a full life, always looking forward to the next get together with friends and family. He loved his Thursday afternoons with the Parkville gang, his card games, cribbage games, and his family gatherings. Besides his cherished wife, he is survived by four loving sons and three daughters-in-law, William P. Murphy of Houston, TX, Robert M. and Karen Murphy of Farmington, Daniel J. and Alison Murphy of West Hartford and Peter G. and Romey Murphy of Simsbury; six adored grandchildren, Ryan, Meghan, Christian, Anderson, Owen and Alara. A sister and brother-in-law, Noreen and George Brown, predeceased Bill.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 5, at 10:00 am at St. Peter Claver Church, 47 Pleasant St., West Hartford. Please meet directly at Church. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours.
