Obituary for William “Bill” Dawson

William “Bill” Dawson, 94, a resident of West Hartford, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2022, peacefully in the comfort of his home surrounded by his adoring family. Born on April 7, 1928, in Hartford, CT, he was the son of the late William and Agnes Dawson and brother to Marilyn Melrose. Bill was the loving husband of Peggy (Kelliher) for 63 years. He was a proud Navy Veteran who served on the U.S.S. Rush. He maintained a career in finance for over 30 years. Bill was devoted to Peggy, his four children, nine grandchildren and his large extended family. His family treasured his zestful spirit for life. Holidays at the Dawson home were always a joyful occasion where all were welcome. “The more the merrier” is a motto Bill lived by. He cherished his family and friends, sitting on the beach until sunset, golfing, eating ice cream, watching football and listening to jazz. He lived a life of strong faith and was an active member of St. Mark the Evangelist Parish for decades.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Gar Dawson, daughter Diane Powell and her husband Mike, daughter Marilyn Tyler and her husband Keith and son Billy Dawson and his wife Donna. He is predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Colleen Curry-Dawson. “Papa” leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Kyle, Griffin, and Ean Tyler, Aidan, Maeve, Caragh and Maggie Maloney, and Bridget and Jack Dawson. He is survived by his in-laws: Anna Sheehy, Dolores Kelliher and Frank and Carol Kelliher. Our beautiful memories of Bill are endless and he was so dearly loved.
