Obituary for Virginia “Gini” Moore

Virginia “Gini” Moore passed away peacefully on September 22, 2022 at Saint Francis Hospital, Hartford, CT surrounded by family. She was born October 28, 1941 in Clearfield, PA the daughter of Guy T. Smeal and Dorothy Grubb Smeal of Clearfield PA. Gini graduated Bradford High School, Bradford, PA Class of 1959. She was President of her high school class and varsity cheerleader.

She worked at Zippo Mfg and later moved her family to Connecticut where she worked at a law firm in Hartford as a real estate paralegal where she retired.

She was a loving wife, mother, and grammy/grandma. Eighty years of love and laughter she shared with so many.  A woman who never turned down a piece of chocolate or her favorite thing to make for dinner: reservations. She never missed an opportunity to boast about her grandchildren and attended every sporting or academic event she could.  The mother of three loved the outdoors, camping with her family at Witch Meadow Campgrounds and of course sitting in her new gazebo getting fresh air with her husband of 56 years. She carried a purse that weighed more than her second child at birth but it had everything you needed in a moments notice. That was Gini, always wanting to help someone else.   Her favorite time of year was the Christmas holiday season where traditions ran deep. Including the yearly tradition of baking 60 dozen cookies and 20 pounds of homemade goodies, decor for every room, and waking us up at 4 am even after we all grew up. Silly Santa occurred at the end of the Christmas dinner and truly was the highlight of her evening where silly gifts could land you a roll of toilet paper , soap dish or can of soup.

Gini and Buz often enjoyed going out to dinner, topping off their meals with Reese’s Pieces sundaes and her asking for, “a Buzzy coffee when we get home”. Buz was a devoted husband who was always there to provide extended care after a return from rehab, or getting her a simple glass of water after they had already sat down. Gini was known to light up any room with her smile, and always there to offer a hug if needed.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Guy “Butch” Smeal from Bradford PA and Ohio, her sister Anita “Niki” Rainha from Colchester CT and Casa Grande AZ.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 56 years James “Buz” Moore from Bradford, PA and West Hartford, CT. Surviving in addition to her husband, are her three children, Stacey “Mase” Moore of Salem, OH, Randy Moore of Newington, CT with his girlfriend Lizabeth Bacon, and Josie (Moore) Dumond with her husband Scott of Newington, CT; six grandchildren,  Allison (Moore) Buck and her husband Robert, Dorothy Moore, Colby and Evan Roy, Gabrielle and Nicholas Dumond. She is also survived by a loving extended family which included several sister and brother in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces and nephews, and her best friend Dianne Antos of Farmington, CT who provided so much love and support for her through the years.

We would like to thank Saint Francis Hospital for all of their efforts and continued care of Gini, and Jefferson House Newington CT for their dedication in getting her stronger to come home.

In leu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association.

Calling hours will be held 10am-12pm on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave, West Hartford, CT 06110, with Memorial Service to follow.
