Obituary for Thomas J. Murphy

Thomas J. Murphy, 62, of Willington, CT passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2022 at St. Francis Hospital with family and friends by his side, after a short but bravely fought battle with cancer.

Tom was born on May 10, 1960, to the late Richard D. Murphy and Grace T. (Driscoll) Murphy and was the youngest of four children. Tom grew up in the Elmwood section of West Hartford and graduated from Conard High School. He completed Pratt & Whitney’s apprentice program and became a master Tool and Die Maker. He worked at Pratt for many years, and then worked at Wiremold for the last 29 years, until his retirement.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his three sisters, Karen Murphy of Newington, Denise and her husband Robert Brown of Stafford Springs and Eileen and her husband Raymond Nye of Willington. Tom also leaves his nieces, Rebecca White and Jennifer Bryan; his nephew, Thomas Brown; his beloved great-nephew, Hudson White; his aunt Dorothy Lawless and many dearly loved cousins and second cousins.

Tom lived a full and happy life. He was a history buff and loved studying the civil war; he was proud of his Irish heritage, and he loved his New York Yankees, bass fishing, golfing and taking motorcycle trips with the “Wild Hogs”. But most of all he loved his family and friends.

His family would like to give special thanks to all his nurses and aides at St. Francis Hospital on the 8-7 Floor for their excellent care and kindness they gave to him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, September 10, 2022, at 10:30am at St. Brigid Church, 1088 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Office of Radio & Television (ORTV, Inc), 15 Peach Orchard Road, Prospect, CT 06712-1052 or online at ORTV.org.
