Obituary for Thomas G. Bannon

Thomas G. Bannon, known affectionately by many as “Tom, Tommy, TB or Boompa,” 70, of Berlin, passed away unexpectedly at his home on March 15, 2023. Thomas was born on December 31, 1952 in Brooklyn, NY to John and Agnes Bannon. At the age of 11, he moved to West Hartford, CT where he graduated from Northwest Catholic High School, class of 1970. After high school, he attended Central Connecticut State University. After working at Pratt and Whitney for a number of years, Thomas joined Bank of America where he would rise to become a Senior Approval Officer for Home Equity. For 27 years, Thomas was dedicated not only to his work at Bank of America but to making his fellow employees smile and laugh each day.

Thomas is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Pamela. They lived in Manchester for the majority of their life together before recently moving to Berlin. Thomas is also survived by his son Matthew and daughter-in-law Bridget and the newest lights of his life, their children, Olivia and Patrick. He also leaves behind his brother, Jack (Ellen) Bannon; his sisters, Elizabeth (John) Amato and Mary (Don) Hendrickson; his mother-in-law, Marion Tedone; his brothers-in-law Thomas (Joyce) Tedone and Matthew (Tracey) Tedone; and his sister-in-law Debra Smith. Also surviving Thomas are his dear nieces and nephews, Lauren (partner Keith) Amato, Jeffrey (Callie) Amato, Katie Hendrickson, Lisa (Patrick) Fialka, Jenna (Jay) Seymour, Jessica (Shawn) Deary, Chris (Jessica) Tedone, Tommy (Tricia) Tedone, Joyce Tedone, Woodie Pritchett and Katherine Pritchett. Thomas was predeceased by his parents, John and Agnes Bannon, as well as his father-in-law, Salvatore Tedone. He also rejoins his son Timothy, who passed away in 2020, to continue their “debates” or to take in some Red Sox spring training games. As a self-declared “man of the people”, Thomas also leaves behind many more family, friends and coworkers that he cared deeply about.

Thomas was an avid and passionate sports fan. Many of his best memories growing up involved his triumphs in basketball and baseball, including the game-winning hit in Brooklyn Little League, Twilight baseball in West Hartford, and his famous “dunking” picture in the thin air of Colorado. He passed on his love of sports to his two sons and took great pleasure in coaching their Little League and town basketball teams. Many weeknights and weekends were spent at various practices and games or even far away tournaments. While he truly enjoyed watching his children make their own sports memories, he was always quick to remind them of who would win in a game of “HORSE” (and he always did). Thomas was also an ardent fan of the Boston Red Sox. If something was branded with the Red Sox logo, there is a good chance that Thomas owned it. Most importantly, Thomas loved to make people laugh. Through jokes, stories, and often teasing, Thomas knew how to bring a smile to people’s faces. Even if it was a joke you heard for the umpteenth time, it would still make you laugh or at least crack a smile. As we tearfully say goodbye to Thomas, all who knew him can find joy and laughter in the cherished memories made during his life.

Calling hours will be on Saturday, March 25, 2023, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford. After the calling hours, family and friends are invited to continue to celebrate Thomas’ life at Casa Mia on the Hill (111 Golf Street, Newington, CT 06111) from 12:30 pm to 4:00 pm.
