Tammy Mendes Snyder, 57, of Granby CT, was an incredibly beautiful wife and mother. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her loving husband Jay Snyder of 35 years and adoring daughters Laura and Jenna, on July 4th.
Tammy was a magnet for joy and a force of nature. Born the daughter of John and Rosemarie Mendes, she exuded pride for her wonderful childhood growing up in Bloomfield, CT. She attended the Laurel Elementary and Sacred Heart Catholic schools before graduating from Northwest Catholic High School. She was a graduate of Hartford College for Women and received her Bachelor’s degree from The University of Connecticut.
Tammy worked for Aetna Inc. for 10 years before dedicating over a decade to education in the Granby Public School System. She was an active member in the Granby community; proudly serving as the Commissioner of Granby Little League Girls softball and leading Kelly Kids Care. She was an avid supporter of theater in Granby, creating the Granby’s Got Talent program and silent auctions to raise money for GMHS Drama Club. She always made sure to have a front row seat supporting her daughters through the many plays, recitals, sporting events and award ceremonies, which she loved attending.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her husband and children, whether on the beach, traveling, or just at home. Tammy was devoted to her beloved Westie and rescue dogs, and she had an immense compassion for all animals. She was a friend to so many and had an incredible ability to make others feel special.
Her generous and nurturing spirit transcended beyond her own motherhood. She was affectionately known as “Mama Snyder” to many of her daughters’ friends who loved her so much.
In addition to her loving husband and daughters, she is survived by her devoted family; parents John and Rosemarie Mendes of Granby, brother John Mark and sister-in-law Mary Beth Mendes. Tammy loved being part of the large and loving Snyder family; in-laws Mark, Steven, and Michael Snyder and their spouses and Lynn Snyder Vasquez. She is also cherished by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
